Two people have been charged with murder after a man was allegedly killed in an assault at a Chadstone home earlier this week.
A 36-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were arrested following the discovery of a body, which is yet to be formally identified, in Railway Parade, near the Glen Waverley train line, on Friday afternoon.
Police said the man was assaulted at a property on Binalong Avenue and his body was found around the corner after a significant search.
A Chadstone woman was arrested in Seaford on Thursday night, while missing persons squad detectives apprehended a 35-year-old Seaford man in Carrum Downs on Friday afternoon.
The pair have both been charged with one count of murder and were due to face court on Saturday.
Police allege a man in his 40s was fatally assaulted and the Binalong Avenue property was set ablaze on Tuesday.
On Tuesday night, emergency services were called to a fire at the address, which is now being treated as suspicious.
“It’s believed the parties involved were known to each other and the investigation remains ongoing,” said a police statement issued on Friday afternoon.
Forensic detectives scoured the scene in Chadstone on Friday, taking photos and setting down yellow evidence markers behind a metal fence in nearby scrub, directly opposite a row of houses.
Forensic officers continued their examination on Saturday morning.
Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed firefighters were called to a fire in the front room of a single-storey brick house in Binalong Avenue, about 9pm on Tuesday.
A dozen firefighters from three FRV units found the home unoccupied and had the fire under control by 9.10pm.
“The fire was deemed suspicious and the scene [was] handed to Victoria Police,” FRV said.
